There were no new cases of COVID-19 overnight although the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) said that an expanded health response continues in Melbourne after a second hotel quarantine worker tested positive on Sunday.

The department said in a statement that 80 hotel quarantine workers at the Holiday Inn near Melbourne Airport had been identified as primary close contacts and were in isolation and were being tested.

Testing sites at Shorten Reserve in West Footscray and Victoria University’s St Albans campus were kept open until 8pm and facilities at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds were open until 6.30pm. Closing times would be affected by the wait times, the department said.

“Capacity will also be expanded at other sites and our Rapid Response Testing Team will expand pop up testing, with details to come,” the DHSS said on its website.

The department will publish expected wait times at testing sites and aupdated information about locations and hours of operation on the Where to get tested page of its website.

The close contacts of a hotel quarantine worker at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne who tested positive last Wednesday were also being followed up. The department said 61,000 people were tested since Thursday.

The DHHS said yesterday that 1,266 primary close contacts had been identified with the case and more than 80 percent had tested negative.

As of yesterday at 6pm, the Cumberland Local Government Area in New South Wales had been moved from an orange to a green zone under Victoria’s “traffic light” travel permit system. People living in a green zone can apply for a permit to enter Victoria as long as they have not be in close contact with a COVID-19 case. A person from a green zone area must monitor for symptoms and abide by local directions once they enter Victoria.

Meanwhile, The Age reported that 50 Australian Defence Force members arrived in Melbourne on Sunday night from Townsville with a further 150 expected to arrive in the coming days raising to 430 the number of troops who are deployed at 12 quarantine hotels in the city.
