The Victorian government will be shutting down the Holiday Inn at Melbourne Airport as a precautionary measure by the COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria (CQV) department which reports directly to the Minister for Police and Emergency services.

“As a highly precautionary measure, the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport is being closed until further notice for terminal cleaning, and with detailed contact tracing and investigations underway,” the CQV statement said in a starement.

The ABC reported that 135 hotel staff members were stood down last night and were to go into quarantine at home for 14 days and then to be tested for COVID-19.

Staff and hotel residents who were at the hotel during the period of 27 January and 9 February were now considered to be primary close contacts that had to be quarantined.

Meanwhile, The Age has reported that text messages sent last night informed parents that Salesian College and the nearby St Anne’s Primary School in Sunbury would be closed today (Wednesday) as a precautionary measure after seven venues in the suburb were included in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) alerts list on Tuesday night.

The updated list of exposures sites in Sunbury included: Cellarbrations, PJ’s Pet Warehouse,  and the following businesses at the Sunbury Square Shopping Centre: Sunny Life Massage, Baker’s Delight, Aldente Deli, Sushi Sushi, and Asia Star.

In its latest statewide figures for the 24 hours to midnight last night, the DHHS reported two new locally acquired cases and no COVID-19 cases were acquired interstate or from overseas.

The are currently 16 active cases in the state and 22,849 test results were received.
