Nikos Theodorakis is to sing on a special live streaming event that showcases the work of his father and Greece’s most famous contemporary composer Mikis Theodorakis.

It will be the first time that the son will be appearing in the online concert, the Mikis Theodorakis Global Journey of Music that will be streamed live at 5am AEST on Sunday (9pm, Saturday, in Greece).

Nikos Theodorakis will be singing to music written by his father accompanied by a group of nine musicians conducted by  Teo Lazarou – a close associate of Mikis.

Concert organiser Marina Bourdara said the event which will be streamed live and be available for viewing 48 hours would cost €5 to view. Part of the money raised from the concert would be used to support the Greek charity Floga (Flame) which is dedicated to children with neoplastic diseases.

“This unique concert by Nikos Theodorakis is aimed at spreading the music of Mikis Theodorakis to Greeks all over the world, unite them and bring them closer to their country in this difficult time when the only way to communicate with each other is music,” said Ms Bourdara.

Two years ago Nikos founded Mikis Radio, an online radio programme dedicated exclusively to the works of his father.
