Oakleigh Cannons seem to be on a resurgence, if last week’s game was anything to come by. In the last 20 minutes of the game against fellow Greek-sponsored team, Bentleigh Greens, the Cannons pushed past three goals.

The greens stood dumbfounded when their earlier two goals in the match amounted to nothing. The miraculous win and the previous 4-1 win shows despite the early teething problems, new coach Miron Bleiberg is building up a solid momentum.

Tonight the Cannons tackle a grand final re-match with Dandenong Thunder. They’ll go in with their heads held high, expecting a win.

League leaders Northcote City secured their first win a month last Sunday, and with a 4-0 score against Port Melbourne Sharks, the team will be happy with the goal accrual. Sadly in the same night, the Sharks lost their away winning streak, with Sharks coach Eric Vassiliadis admitting he was “bitterly disappointed” with the team’s performance.

A new line-up for the Sharks will make a fresh start for their game tonight against Richmond.

Also playing tonight are Bentleigh Greens, who will go into their home game against Pascoe Vale with the desperate aim of getting some points, winning just one of their last five matches.

Northcote City are up against Green Gully tomorrow in a match that will be hotly contested. Green Gully has only lost one game in the past five, with Northcote City looking like it’s performance can go either way despite it’s place on the ladder.

South Melbourne have just come off their third bid to get into the A-League this week, so their game on Sunday will be looked at intently to see if they have what it takes to make it in the top league. The Greek sponsored team has long promoted itself as a team that can handle the pressure, but their performance this season hasn’t stacked up to the claim. Up against Hume City, South Melbourne could see their seventh ladder position fall to ninth if they can’t secure a win. Last week, South Melbourne could only manage a 1-1 draw against Richmond.

Hume City could climb to second position with a win and has troubled South Melbourne in recent meetings.
