In a special All-Star mid-season National Basketball Association (NBA) game that this year was held in honour of the late Kobe Bryant , Greek basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo outshone them all scoring the most points and earning the MVP (Most Valued Player) award.

Playing for a team of stars captained by Le Bron James against a Kevin Durant team, Mr Antetokounmpo scored on each of his 16 shots to score 35 of this team’s 170 points. The next highest scorers for Team Le Bron were Damian Lillard with 32 and Stephen Curry with 28 points. Bradley Beal’s 26 points was the highest personal tally for Team Durant.

Mr Antetokounmpo scored all 10 Field Goal (FG) attempts breaking an All-Stars’ record set by Hall Greer in 1968 when he scored in eight out of eight attempts. A field goal is worth three points.

In scoring in each of his 16 attempts, the Greek player also broke another perfect-score record.

There were no crowds attending the game on Sunday that was held at 17,000-seater State Farm Arena in Atlanta because of COVID-19 restrictions. .

“Having an award named after Kobe Bryant in my house is a great feeling. I know he would be happy,” said Mr Antetokounmpo on receiving the All-Star MVP award.

Mr Antetokounmpo was voted the NBA’s MVP for the past two seasons.
