The Post Apocalyptic Users’ Guide

In 7.6 billion years the sun will engulf the earth. It pays to be prepared. After a successful run of packed houses in the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Xavier Michelides brings startling Dystopic visions back to life in his ominously funny show. The Post Apocalyptic Users’ Guide will teach you everything needed to survive any end-world scenario, because when food is scarce 3 out of 5 people admit they would convert to cannibalism. The show won the comedy@trades ‘Best Instructional Show’ Award.

Katerina Kokkinos-Kennedy and her colleagues from ‘a is for atlas’ present a one on one live art event which explores ideas of intimacy. The performance takes – I’m glad I’ve seen you; Can we make a time to meet? Call me… – and turns it into an singular performance expereince. The experience is suitable for one person or one couple at a time.

Zambetologies

Out of the Blue present a concert dedicated to the singer, songwriter, composer, philosopher, comedian and all round Greek ambassador, George Zambetas. The man who revolutionised the sound of Greek music 50 years ahead of his time with influences from outside of Greece (including Jazz). The venue will be transformed into an intimate cabaret space in the style that was common in Greece in the 50s and 60s. Beverages and mezze platters available upon request.

2009 Glendi Festival

The Glendi Festival returns in 2009 with a new venue and a new date. Adelaide’s premier panygiri will take place this year at the Adelaide Showgrounds. The star act from Greece is 80 legend and star of the laika, Yiannis Katevas who will be appearing both night. Look out for the plate smashing competitions, the olive spitting competitions, performances on both days of the Meraki Big Band and food and drinks from all over Greece.

Greek Film Festival

Finish off the four day celebration of contemporary Greek cinema in Brisbane by watching Small Crimes, an exquisite drama about a young police officer begrudgingly assigned to an island in the Aegean. Join Leondias as his investigations into a murder leads him to Angeliki, a local bauty who casts her magical spell over him. It appears everyone here has their own version of the truth.
