Olympiacos are celebrating an early Super League championship win after beating Panathinaikos in an action packed derby match on Sunday.

The Reds secured a mathematical win after beating their rivals 3-1 giving them a 22 point lead on the board, whilst second placed Aris lost to AEK 1-3 earlier on the day.

Panathinaikos started off with the lead thanks to Green’s forward Federico Macheda scoring a penalty in the 31st minute, but Olympiacos forward Ahmed Mahgoub came in to equalise the score before the second half.

It took a while before Olympiacos truly left its mark, as Mahgoub swept in yet again to score in the 72nd minute before Bruma put the final nail in the coffin seven minutes into overtime.

AEK also put on a spectacular display, coming out guns blazing from the get go.

The Athenian Yellows opened with a penalty kick by Muamer Tankovic in the 12th minute. 16 minutes later defender Stavros Vassilantonopoulos brought the score up to 2-0, whilst Karim Ansarifard added more insult to injury in the 36th .

Aris only managed to score one consolation goal in the second half thanks to Argentinian Daniel Mancini.

AEK and PAOK now both sit at 51 points after drawing 1-1 with Asteras Tripolis.

On the other end of the board, Larissa triumphed 1-0 over Atromitos on Saturday giving them a strong chance to remain in the league. Panetolikos may be a little more worried about relegation dropping down after its 3-1 loss to Volos.

OFI managed a much needed 0-0 draw against Apollon, sitting only three points above Panetolikos.

On Tuesday at 2:30am AEST PAS Giannina will host PAS Lamia to cap off this round of the playouts.
