Former full back for Greek club PAOK Dimitris Giannoulis said he was not aware that Liverpool were interested in signing him when he joined Championship team Norwich City FC in the second tier of English football.

The Anfieldwatch website drawing from a report from Italian publication La Gazetta dello Sport that quoted former PAOK coach Abel Ferreira who said the English Premier champions had wanted to sign the Greek international last year.

Mr Giannoulis said that while he had spoken to the then PAOK coach about some of the clubs he could sign for at the time, Liverpool was not mentioned.

“I did not know about Liverpool,” he told the Italian publication. “We had talked and he (Ferreira) told me that there were teams that wanted me, but I did not know about Liverpool.”

The player who has been on loan to Norwich since January is set to sign for the club for a reported fee of (US)$9.3 million. Norwich is currently comfortably heading the Championship table and looks set to be promoted to English Premier League in the next season.

Liverpool instead signed up another Greek international full back, Kostas Tsimikas who has battled with injuries and form this season. He joined Liverpool for (US)$16.3 million and has played just five minutes of Premier League football.
