After a break last year because of COVID-19, the annual Alex Kondos Memorial Lecture is set to go ahead at the Greek Club in South Brisbane on 19 May.

The two-part lecture will be presented by Neos Kosmos columnist Dean Kalimniou and prominent Brisbane historian Helen Greogory with the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence in mind.

In the first part of the lecture, which begins at 7.30pm, in “Greek Women of the Revolution”, Mr Kalimniou will talk about the role of women in the 1821 Revolution.

For the second part of the lecture Ms Gregory will provide an insight into the challenges faced by modern Greek women such as Presvitera Roula Sakellariou, Professor Maria Kavallaris and opera star Maria Callas.
