Greek tennis young-gun Stefanos Tsitsipas has won his 33rd singles victory of 2021 after beating Britain’s Cameron Norrie at the Lyon Open in France.
Tsitsipas glided through the match ending on 6-3, 6-3.
The players fought each other’s strengths, both starting off by knocking back break points in their opening service games.
The 22-year-old attempted to move up the court and dominate with a heavy forehand, but Norrie responded by trying to manipulate the young Greek into using his backhand.
Tsitsipas was able to find the Brit’s weakest link in the eighth game, leading his opponent to miss an overhead long. The World No. 5 closed out the match with a smooth ace.

The second set saw Tsitsipas use more agile movement and hit deeper shots, bringing him to break the tied games and take the lead 4-3.
“I felt in good shape from the beginning of the tournament. I am proud of today’s match, I knew it would be a difficult one against Cameron who has been showing great tennis this week,” Tsitsipas said in his post match interview on court.
The young Greek commended his opponent for the games he played throughout the French tournament and for putting up a good fight.
“He has been winning against good players and showing what the left hand can do on clay. It was not an easy match today, I had to handle the nerves and I am proud of my performance and the way I stayed focussed towards my goal,” Tsitsipas said.
Tsitsipas will now have his sights set on the French Open which begins today at 6:30pm AEST.
