On Friday March 20 Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College opened its arms to Panos Kammenos the Greek Deputy Minister for Merchant Shipping, who was visiting Melbourne as part of the National Greek Independence Day celebrations.

The Greek Deputy Minister was accompanied to the College by the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne Mr Salamanis and the Education Consul Mr Ladopoulos.

Mr Kammenos visited classrooms in the Primary and Secondary Schools and enjoyed his interaction with the students, to whom he spoke to in both Greek and English. The students put on their best and performed a number of Greek songs for him.

The students, staff and facilities of Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College made an impression on Mr Kammenos who expressed marvel at what the Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh and District have been able to achieve in the 25 year history of the College.
