South Melbourne made it three wins in a row by defeating Whittlesea at Bob Jane Stadium on Tuesday night by three goals to one, in what was a one-sided match.

Goran Zoric continued his recent purple patch, scoring the game’s first goal. Gianni De Nittis added South’s second goal in the second half  while Fernando De Moraes sealed the win.

The game began in a timid manner with both sides really struggling throughout the early stages to muster any meaningful chance on goal.

South however started to gain some ascendancy and through pocket rocket Zoric, the Lakesides club nearly went ahead after 10 minutes.

South continued to come forward in waves and were thwarted twice more by Gerohristodoulou, who was the busiest player on the park.

The Blues went ahead 1-0 after some sublime footwork by Coveny saw the veteran dart past a few defenders before playing an exceptional ball into the path of the well positioned Zoric just inside the area.

The quick midfielder calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to give his side the advantage, whilst also making himself the leading goal scorer in the competition after scoring his fifth goal in as many games.

Whittlesea scored the next goal against the run of play. Unsure defending by South left Brandon Vassallo free to brilliantly volley the ball past the helpless Tommi Tomich.

The second half started off in a similar way to the first, with South coming out as the more attacking of the two sides. Half chances on offer to both Zoric and Coveny were not taken.

Whittlesea also had half chances in the opening 15 minutes of the half, with Edemer Garcia a problem for the South defence.

However his two timid shots on goal ended in the arms of South goalie Tomich.

South struck first in the second half after a wonderful cross by Goran Zoric found Gianni De Nittis inside the area. De Nittis buried his header into the back of the net to give his side a one goal advantage once again.

With the Zebras on the back foot, South managed to grab the vital goal to close off the game.

Brilliant footwork by Brazilian maestro Fernando saw the midfielder slice his way past three Zebras defenders before slamming the ball over the sliding keeper.

The final five minutes saw South miss a host of chances, with Nic Curtis coming closest by driving his shot over the bar.
