Apollon Kalamarias managed to stay in the top flight sending Milon down on last week while Phinikas Syrou edged closer to the fifth spot.

Apollon hosted Milon at Kalamaria for the last game of the playouts and needed to win by 3-0 or 3-1 to stay up and send the Nea Smyrni side to the A2 division.

They did just that, winning 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-15, 25-15), so Milon will follow Ethnikos Alexandroupolis down where they came from two years ago.

In the playoffs for the fifth spot that leads to Europe’s Challenge Cup next season, Phinikas Syrou scored their second victory in as many games over Lamia, this time away for home, and won the series 2-0.

Phinikas won 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-21) and will now have to wait for the winner of the Aris vs PAOK tie to find out who their opponents will be in the series for the fifth spot.

PAOK levelled the series with Aris at 1-1 on Thursday, winning 3-2 in a thrilling game that was also interrupted due to crowd disturbances.

PAOK beat their crosstown rivals 25-19, 25-27, 25-14, 21-25, 18-16 and the series will be decided in a third game scheduled for Monday, April 27 at 7 pm.

The best-of-five final series of the league that will determine who the new champion will be also begins on Monday at 7 pm, with Panathinaikos hosting Olympiakos at Glyfada.

EA Patras, who have finished third, will receive a third-place trophy and medals from the league on Wednesday, April 29 – this is the highest position ever for the Peloponnesian club.

EA Patras and Iraklis will represent Greece in the CEV Cup. This is the first time after 10 years that Iraklis have missed out on the Champions League, where they were runners-up this season.
