The ancient wrestling school of Greek philosopher Aristotle in the Athens suburb Rizari will be transformed into an archeological park open to the public by 2011.

The Greek Minister of Culture, Antonis Samaras, announced last week that work is due to start in 2010 on unifying the 3.4 hectare archaeological park on the site once occupied by Aristotle’s Lyceum in Ancient Greece.

A protective canopy will be built over the antiquities in the palestra or wrestling area of the lyceum’s gymnasium.

Samaras said the 4.5 million euro project will link the park to the Byzantine Museum.
