Greece kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand by notching a last gasp win over Luxembourg on Saturday.

Trailing 14-10 as the game went into the last few seconds, Greece secured the win with a try from scrum-half Vassilis Katsakos.

Tries from captain Chris Fiotakis and back row forward Filippos Sotiriadis meant Greece scored three tries to one but a series of penalties allowed Luxembourg to come within a whisker of grabbing a surprise win.

“We had over 65 per cent possession, we won over 76 per cent of the line-out and we completely dominated the scrums so why such a low score?” said coach Nikos Petropoulos.

“We just didn’t convert opportunities into tries, as simple as that. We had at least seven and didn’t finish them off. Over-confidence almost cost us the game.”
