• Sheena Matheiken is one New Yorker who’s taking the idea of sustainable fashion to new lengths. She’s decided to wear the same dress every day for a whole year. Sheena has seven identical dresses that she rotates through each week. Every day she whacks one on and makes it work with various ‘sustainable’ accessories that are either vintage, hand-me-downs or donations.
  • A fashion studio in Kazakhstan is producing what it calls “glamour surgical masks” as the fear of contracting swine flu spreads across the country.  The outbreak led thousands of people to begin wearing surgical masks in public. The glamour masks are decorated with rhinestones and other costume jewelry and cost around $1 each.
  • Fashion designer Kit Willow Podgornik is the latest Aussie designer to accuse a fellow local designer of ‘appropriating’ her designs. Podgornik has called for Nicola Finetti to destroy pieces from his current collection, stating that he has copied the vertical scalloping detail that featured in her most recent collection. Finetti has shot back saying that scalloping has been a feature of his work since 2000 and that Podgornik has never been an inspiration to him. Ouch.
  • The Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival is in full swing and last week made Australian fashion history by featuring a plus-size parade. Models in sizes 14-18 took to the catwalk for plus-size retailer City Chic and streetwear lable, Ed Hardy.
