Olympiakos shot to top spot in the Super League with a 3-0 win over Asteras Tripolis at Karaiskakis Stadium on Sunday morning.

Olof Mellberg put Olympiakos ahead in the 35th minute and second half goals from Costas Mitroglou in the 53rd and Jaouad Zairi 14 minutes later sealed the three points.

New coach Zico is undoubtedly enjoying a fine start as coach of Olympiakos having replaced the short-lived Timuri Ketsbaia.

Meanwhile, Macedonian powerhouse PAOK put its boardroom troubles behind them with a strong 2-0 win at Toumba against newly promoted PAS Ioannina.

Both goals came in the space of three minutes just before half-time to give PAOK an unassailable lead.

Lino nabbed the first in the 43rd minute with Nikos Arabatzis adding the second two minutes later. The win takes PAOK to 12 points – seven behind Olympiakos – where they join Ergotelis and Aris who drew 0-0 in Crete.

Ergotelis had to play the last 35 minutes with ten men after Michalis Fragkoulakis collected his second yellow card of the afternoon.

A last minute goal from Djibril Cisse spared Panathinaikos’ blushes as they came back from 0-2 down to grab a share of the points at Kavala on Sunday.

However, it was not enough to maintain their 100 per cent record this season and means they now share top spot with Olympiakos.

Both sides have 19 points after seven rounds and they hold a seven point lead over the teams closest to them – PAOK, Aris and Ergotelis.

Nigerian striker Benjamin Onwuachi gave Kavala the perfect start when he put them ahead after 21 minutes and then doubled the lead two minuts before half-time.

Panathinaikos came back into the game in the 56th minute through Costas Katsouranis but it was not until the very last minute of the game that Cisse slavaged a valuable point.

AEK Athens also had a rough ride as they struggled to overcome bottom club Panthrakikos 3-2 at OAKA.

The visitors, who are still looking for their first win of the season, took the lead through Bedi Buval in the 26th minute but they could only hold on to it for two minutes before Daniel Majstorovic levelled.

An own goal from Zeljko Djokic six minutes before half-time put AEK in front and Nacho Scocco’s 59th minute appeared to send them cruising. But Bertrand Robert pulled one back in the 67th minute and AEK had to work to hold on to their advantage.

Panthrakikos remain firmly at the foot of the table – the only team not to have won a match after both Atromitos and Larissa both picked up their first wins of the season.

Elias Anastasakos sent Atromitos on their way against Levadiakos with two second half goals, opening the scoring five minutes after the break and then adding a second in the 67th minute.

Zdravko Popovic wrapped up a 3-0 win with the final goal two minutes from time.

Larissa put their poor form behind them with a solid 2-0 win over Xanthi. Again the goals came in the second half, Tumer Metin putting Larissa ahead in the 52nd minute with Shimon Abuhatzira adding a second four minutes from time.

Panionios made it two wins on the trot with a 2-0 defeat away at Iraklis, thanks to second half goals from Bosko Balaban and Giannis Maniatis.

Maniatis had a schizophrenic day as he followed his goal by picking up two yellow cards in the space of two minutes, leaving Panionios to play a man down for the last 26 minutes.
