Last week saw hundreds of Greek Year 12 students graduate across Melbourne. School captain of Alphington Grammar, Stacey Katsaros says she was excited about starting a new chapter in her life.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people, and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring,” she said.

17-year-old Jonathan Daviotis from Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College said that he had mixed emotions, but that he was more sad than anything.

“I’ve had so much fun with my friends and you realise you’re not going to see them every day anymore,” he said.

“Although I’m looking forward to seeing them in a different light… when you leave (school) you make the transition into real friends so then you begin sharing experiences like a family.”

John Caracacidis who graduated from Glen Waverley Secondary College on Tuesday said that he didn’t really go that crazy on his last day of school.

“Muck up day is stupid and doesn’t mean anything to us so we just went back to a mate’s place,” he said.

“But I knew the guy from Mount Waverley Secondary College who copped it in the head with a baseball bat and got a brain injury. It was kind of shocking and you would  not expect that a celebration of Year 12s would be ruined like that.”

St John’s College student Yianni Manias said that his graduation ceremony on Tuesday was by far the highlight of his secondary school years.

“It was fun and enjoyable and most of all I was proud to be a St John’s College graduate.”
