It’s the day when all eyes are apparently on the bride. It’s the day you’ve been dreaming of forever and it’s the day that ordinary dressmakers get to charge an arm and a leg for a dress you are going to wear once.

We are talking about THE dress, the wedding dress. As a wedding is one of the most memorable days of a woman’s life, it’s best to really think about what you are going to wear.

Some women have known what they were going to wear on their special day since they were little girls, others get stumped looking through bridal mags before the big day. There are things you should you keep in mind when buying your wedding dress. Don’t buy something that is fashionable, think people in the 80’s wedding dresses complete with gypshophila crowns. You don’t want a dress that’s in vogue, you want something classical and timeless.

Seek expert advice. Bridal designer Anastasia Michos, of Anastasia Michos Designs, emphasis the importance of the wedding dress. “It’s the biggest event of her life,” explains Anastasia, “and it’s a very significant event because she is getting married so the dress is very important to the bride. She’s in total focus – it’s her day to shine.” Anastasia’s job is to make the bride shine and she does this through expert consultation and working out what is best for the bride on her special day.

Whether or not you know what you want, bridal designers are there to help you and coax you through the process. “It has to be something that suits the event,” said Anastasia. “You need to find out what type of wedding it is and tailor make it to that.” There is no point in having a fur stole for a beach wedding.

“You need to know what suits their figure, a bride should always avoid an ill-fitting dress, so finding something that compliments a brides figure is very important. And you need to create something that suits a bride’s personality.”

Colour is also very important to the dress. When the bride decides what colour she would like for the dress, the rest of the wedding party will work around that. Cost is another point and it all boils down to how much you can afford. Find a dress that’s within your budget range.

And lastly, take the time to do this properly. A wedding dress is that once in a lifetime dress (for some) so it should be bought with care and thought. So try before you buy, shop around and I promise you, you will know when you try it on that that is the dress for you.
