A new initiative will make it easier and cheaper for Victorian households to support the environment.

The Victorian Gas Heater Rebate for Concession Card Holders program, announced by the Victorian government this week, will entitle Victorian concession-card holders to receive a rebate of $700.when they replace their electric heater with a more cost-effective and energy-efficient gas heater.

“The gas heater rebate program will allow Victorians in need to receive a $700 rebate when they replace high-energy consumption electric heaters with high-efficiency gas space heaters,” said the Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith.

“Switching from electric to gas heaters can save households around $280 on their annual power bill and produce a better outcome for our environment.”

The gas heater rebate will be provided as a discount to eligible concession card holders at over 200 participating suppliers and retailers across Victoria until 2013. Details of participating retailers will be announced before the scheme gets underway on Monday 4 July.
