Two Greek Australian students from South Oakleigh Secondary College have taken out two prestigious overseas awards, with one student, Alexia Stathopoulos, receiving the highest honour; representing Greek students from Australia at Greek parliament this year.
The Year 11 Modern Greek student won first prize in an essay writing competition with the theme ‘anti-bullying’. Her essay was marked by scholars and she gained excellent results in content, grammar and syntax. The trip is fully funded by the Hellenic Parliament and facilitated by the Education Consul at the Greek Embassy. This is a very prestigious award highlighting the strength of Modern Greek students.
Anastasia Stavrinou, a Year 10 Modern Greek student, has been chosen by the Red Cross to attend the 58th International Study and Friendship Camp which will be held in Langenlois, a beautiful city in Austria. She will be participating in various programs titled, Dare To Share, the Torchlight peace walk and the Festival of Nations. She was a Red Cross volunteer while she was living in Greece and has been chosen for her excellent contribution to community service.
