Artist George Tzikas will be exhibiting his new work, small paintings done in oil, at a new exhibition entitled Earth Songs: Echoes of Death.
The work, that represents the earth’s presence, is the latest exhibition by this artist.
“Listen through the silence and you will hear the Earth’s longing to create, and her deathly detachment towards the destruction of her own creations,” he says in his release.
Through listening, and through this space of presence, Tzikas’ exhibition and work is around listening to the fragility and vulnerability of not only earth, but life itself.
Tzikas describes himself as an abstract painter who borders on representational.
“I take known objects, known environments, things that we recognise, then I try and walk a fine line, breaking that down and abstracting but still to a point that people can access and recognise something in the work. So it’s like an anchor point for them to jump into the work and explore it,” he told Neos Kosmos last year.
Earth songs: Echoes of Death will take place at Gear Box Gallery, 39-41 Arnold Street, South Yarra from October 18 to November 19.
