Greek is the focus language this year for the Australian Association for Literary Translation (AALITRA) and if you are an Australian citizen or are a permanent resident you can enter to win a prize in the association’s Translation Awards.
There are two sections you can take part in, poetry or prose. The prose piece is taken from the work of Dionysia Mousoura-Tsoukala and the poetry text is by SS Charkianankis. These can be obtained from the AALITRA website (link below).
While there is no entry fee, participants will be required to become members of AALITRA at a cost of $10 for students or $25 through the organisation’s membership page on its website.
The organisation said that the aim of the AALITRA Translation Awards was “to acknowledge the wealth of literary translation skills present in the Australian community”.
The winners will be awarded a cash and book prize, as well as a year’s membership to AALITRA. Only one entry per participant will be accepted: in either the prose or the poetry translation.

An Honourable Mention will awarded in the prose and poetry categories.
The winning entries will be read aloud at an awards ceremony later in the year and will be published in the association’s journal The ALLITRA Review.
The association thanked the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria for its support for the awards.
