While many are being hit hard by COVID-19, especially in the hospitality sector, a family owned business is seeing a spike in sales.

OASIS, now a household name, opened its doors in Melbourne back in 1969 contributing to Australia’s renowned love affair with caffeine the Greek way.

Made with freshly roasted, blended and pulverised beans for an authentic tasting Greek style coffee, OASIS has become a favourite.

Faced with the treat of lost revenue on top of being a local business supporting its community, OASIS’ team adopted a different approach targeted to satisfy social behaviours that surround the consumption of coffee during lockdown.

The company pursued smart strategies and was able to successfully repurpose two key customer-facing teams in areas of business that saw demand spikes.

“Our Directors and Brother’s in law Chris Togias and Peter Patisteas led the team at a round table staff meeting where we were challenged to think, transform and triumph as our business adapted to COVID-19,” Dean Makris, General Manager of Foodservice, said.

“When across the globe countries began imposing shelter-in-place measures, our favourite cafes and clubs closed and social distancing kicked-in, OASIS a family-owned business was forced to reflect on their own ‘coffee culture’.”

OASIS’ Victorian Sales Team have bolstered the production team to meet heightened appetite from major Grocery Retailers, a direct result of more self-isolation Brikis being enjoyed.

In addition, the brand’s Victorian Café Support Team have shifted from servicing local cafes, to now delivering online coffee orders, a quarantine trend, so that Greek coffee lovers can maintain their Melbourne standards at home.

“A passion for premium pulverised coffee and people is at the heart our business,” Chris Togias said.

“Our priority has always been to retain employees and that is no different now. Our challenge is to how best keep our team together to maximise current opportunities whilst minimising impact to staff’s overall wellbeing.”
