The online launch of Angela Costi’s has fifth poetry collection “An Embroidery of Old Maps and New” published by Spinifex Press, will take place on 7 April between 6 and 7pm and will be presented by text artist berni m jansenn.
Her latest work “brings the world of Cyprus to Australia” as it reflects on the experiences of her parents, who left Cyprus for Australia to escape poverty, civil unrest and imminent war, and from her maternal grandmother, who created the Lefkarathika embroidery – Ms Costi threads her words to echo her grandmother’s embroidery.

Ms Costi is a graduate of Law and Professional Writing and Editing who works as a lawyer and community artist with a focus on social justice issues.
Her work in poetry, stories, plays, essays and reviews has been widely published since 1994.
In 1995 she received an award from the Australian National Languages and Literacy Board to study Ancient Drama in Greece.
In 2009, she travelled to Japan with support from the Australian Council to work in collaboration with the Stringraphy Ensemble.
Last year, during the first lockdown in Melbourne, she collaborated with film director Faezeh Alavi and music group Vardos to produce three video poems, “Kinaesthetic Grace”, “Making Lace” and “Shelter” that were shown online.
