Greek fans might not be celebrating a win at this year’s Eurovision contest, but it is fair to say the prize was claimed by a nation that desperately needed a morale boost after 2020.

At least that’s what Måneskin’s bass guitarist, Victoria de Angelis, said after her band was crowned the Grand Final winner.

“This is a message of hope after this hard year we’ve been through.”

The Italian band won with 524 points for the song Zitti E Buoni.

The rock song drifted away from the common pop genre the contest is known for, but it turned out it worked well, with Måneskin securing their majority points from the public vote – in fact a whopping 318 points just from that section of the voting process.

France’s Barbara Pravi, performing Voilà, did well both on jury and public vote, scoring second place just short of 500 points (499), while the Swiss entry, Gjon’s Tears, who performed the song Tout l’univers, finished third (432).

Representing Greece, Stefania had a spectacular performance with Last Dance securing the 10th place (170).

This is the country’s first comeback to Top 10 after 8 years.

While Elena Tsagrinou’s El Diablo was considered one of the strongest contenders for the competition, Cyprus didn’t make it in the top 10, garnering a total of 94 points (16th place).

Overall, rankings were varied compared to previous years, but one country set a record low that could not go unnoticed: the United Kingdom, with James Newman’s song, Embers accounting for 0 points.
