On Holy Saturday, 1 May, as many Greek-Australians prepared for midnight mass, fellow marathon runner Stavros Michael took his own personal test of faith, endurance and performance by taking on a 100km ultra-marathon in the Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Speaking to Neos Kosmos about his relationship with running and the personal goals he fulfills by participating in each Marathon, Stavros Michael said “What is more of a Greek sport than a Marathon. Every time I run, something new wakes up inside of me. With every course and there is a new road”.

“Together with the other marathon runners – beginners, those more experienced – we started off before sunrise in the dark, around unknown figures and on untouched paths, with our heads held high, our feet forward and with a smile; There is nothing that feels more Greek than running a Marathon,” he continued.
