A Southbank townhouse complex is in lockdown for 14 days after two cases tested positive to COVID. These were primary close contacts of people connected to the Southbank complex and will be counted in Wednesday’s tally.

The Kings Park apartments between Dodds and Wells streets were tested on Monday after the residential block was identified as a site of concern. A man from the block tested positive for the virus on Saturday, however new cases were noted on Tuesday after two other men who live in separate apartments, adjacent to the homes of four positive cases within the complex, tested positive to COVID-19.

COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said authorities are concerned about the communal areas of the complex which has an inner garden courtyard and thoroughfares.

“There is a total now of six positive cases, one of the positive cases is a very young infant, and they are remaining in the apartment with their mother,” Mr Weimar said.

There are 7000 primary close contacts connected to the recent outbreaks which have been cleared to exit isolation and another 1,600 due to be released once they test negative.

The state recorded two new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Monday, both children who were isolating while infectious.

Three new tier-2 sites were added to the Victorian Health Department’s exposure sites, including the apartment complex, and retail outlets in Docklands and Taylors Lakes.
