George Mpliokas married the love of his life, Gabriella, two Saturday’s ago, and was doubly blessed when he saw his beloved Sydney Olympic win!

Known to Neos Kosmos readers for his activities within the Greek community of NSW, sports write-ups in our newspaper as well as an odd article or two in the past, Mr Mpliokas is an avid soccer fan and, with young bride in tow, rushed from the church to the field to watch his team win.

He told Neos Kosmos he felt “very blessed and also glad Olympic won!”

On Facebook, he wrote:

“In 1960, Peter Varvaressos and his bride hurried from their own wedding ceremony to Wentworth Park, to watch Sydney Pan-Hellenic overturn a 2-1 deficit and win 3-2 – dragging the priest along to sign their wedding papers at the ground (The Giant Who Never Awoke: history and oral stories of Pan-Hellenic SC – Vasilas V, 2012). Thank you to everyone who helped us pay tribute to that piece of #GreekAustralian history – including Sydney Olympic FC and Yu Hasegawa for the 92nd minute winner vs Sydney FC.”

We wish the young couple a life together as exciting as the game itself with many goals scored and championship wins.
