The old Brunswick building that houses the Cyprus Community of Melbourne and Victoria can no longer meet the needs of the organisation, and will soon make way for an multi-storey multi-purpose building.
Cyprus Community of Melbourne President Stelios Angelodimou confirmed that plans for the Lygon Street structure in Brunswick have been approved.
Returning to Australia from Cyprus, where he also holds business interests, Mr Angelodimou said that the members will be given details of the plans at the annual general meeting which is set to take place at 3pm on Sunday.
Mr Angelodimou told Neos Kosmos that there have been some modifications to the original plans, and the total cost of the structure will be at $25 million.
The breakdown of costs will be given in detail to members.
“There will be a six- to seven-storey building erected. Some of these floors will be for the needs of the Cypriot community and others for commercial use which will also be held as investments,” Mr Angelodimou said.

“What matters is for us to invest on our youth and future by offering modern and exceptional services to our members and to the elderly who created this Community.”
The plans include a 200-sq-metre hall for functions, a roof restaurant as well as other installations, such as a residential space to help fund the project.
Mr Angelodimou said the Cypriot community wants to grow, draw younger people and be a hub that is worthy of the largest group of Greek-speaking Cypriots in Victoria.
