Greek police are investigating fake vaccination certificates allegedly being offered to people at the Palamas Health Centre in Karditsa, western Thessaly.

Suspicion was raised due to the fact that there are 6,000 residents in the area, however there were 40,000 vaccinations registered to having taken place at the health centre according to SKAI News.

It is alleged that at least 47 people appear to have received vaccination certifications without having been vaccinated in the month of August, however authorities believe that the number of incidents is much larger.

The vaccination codes traced the fake certificates to a nurse, who has been called to testify. Bank statements have been requested in order to see if there have been any funds transferred as it is believed that at least 47 people who received vaccination certificates from the centre also transferred money to the nurse.

Those who have received vaccination certificates may also face consequences.

In the past, fake vaccination certificates were also found to have been offered by a doctor at Asklipio Hospital in Voula, Athens.

Greece’s Health Minister Thanos Plevris said that a “special law to combat fake vaccinations” will soon be introduced.

As vaccine skepticism continues to exist, Checkpoint Research data shows a trend emerging for fake vaccine passports and certificates sold on the Dark Web. Researchers have spotted fake certificates from all around the world, with the majority coming from Europe.
