Victoria’s COVID-19 cases rose to 567 new cases and one death  overnight, bringing active cases to 5,675 and a total of 12 deaths in the state from the current outbreak.

There were 50,915 COVID tests processed and 39,939 vaccinations administered at state-run hubs.

Tough restrictions will continue for Victorians until 80 per cent of the state is fully vaccinated. At the moment, 72 per cent of eligible Victorians have received a COVID vaccination and 43.9 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

Current estimations show that 70 per cent of Victorians will be double vaccinated by 26 October, so that the travel limit can be lifted to 25 per cent and hospitality will be able to open outdoors for 50 fully vaccinated people. The 80 per cent double dose target will be met on 5 November and that is when the travel limit will be scrapped and retail, gyms and beauty services will reopen for the fully vaccinated – and hospitality will also resume indoors.

Trials on double-vaccinated entry into businesses and events will begin from October, with Commonwealth and Services Victoria working on technology for people to be able to show their vaccine status on their phone or while booking tickets for events.

Business groups and the opposition government have slapped the state government’s road map, stating it is too conservative in comparison to the plan in NSW.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Paul Guerra said “it is extremely tough to look over the border and see our NSW neighbours get back to relatively normal life while we continue to be locked down in a holding pattern.”
