Smiles abound in the Antetokounmpo household, as ‘Greek Freak’ Giannis has been voted the third best international player of the NBA just a week after his mother Veronica and his brother Alex were granted honorary Greek citizenship.

According to the website ClutchPoints the two-time MVP, sits behind Mavericks German legend Dirk Nowitzki and the Rockets Nigerian superstar, Hakeem Olajuwon, and is placed ahead of Jamaican New York Knick Patrick Ewing and Canadian Steve Nash.

The 26-year-old basketballer has collected a mammoth amount of accolades including two MVPs, one Defensive Player of the Year, one championship, one Finals MVP, five time All-Star, five time All-NBA and four time All-Defense.

“His championship run moved him up quite a few notches, but Antetokounmpo still has a ways to go in terms of all-time numbers,” the website wrote.

“However, if he truly wants to separate himself (and prolong his career once his athleticism fades), a consistent jump shot is still necessary.”

Antetokounmpo has made a huge name for himself in the NBA since being picked in the 2013 draft. He was selected 15th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks and made his NBA debut that year on 13 October, at just 18 years of age and as one of the youngest NBA players ever.

The Buck has not shied away from his motherland either, having frequently played on Greece’s national basketball teams from 2013 to 2019.
