The Greek Democritus Workers League will hold the inaugural “Equinox” art exhibition in early November at the Steps Gallery in Melbourne.

The title of the exhibition is drawn from the geographical phenomenon that occurs twice a year when the hours of day and night are equal in length said a league spokesperson.

The word is drawn from a combination of the Latin words “aequus” (meaning “equal”) and “nox” (night) and denotes the fact that each of the 12 artists who will exhibit their work has their own “equinox” and their personal connection with the world.

“For the Greek Democritus Workers League, the name ‘equinox’ resonates because of its egalitarian values and how its discourse resonates both symbolically and practically,” the spokesperson said.

“Both the Greek Democritus Workers League are proud to come together and demonstrate how equinox extends through portraits of identity in both worlds and the artists’ own process of reaching their poetics.”
