A staff member at Nikos Cakes, Oakleigh, had tested positive to COVID-19 this week

Nick Poupouzas, owner of the beloved Greek cake shop and meeting place, told Neos Kosmos that the cake shop had shut down for 48 hours from Wednesday to Thursday following the detection of the case.

“Without giving it a second thought, we shut shop and asked all staff members to get tested,” Mr Poupouzas said.

“Parallel to that we thought it wise to deep clean all areas.”

The tests came back negative and the cake shop was open again on Friday.

Mr Poupouzas said that, upon being notified of the case, the establishment did not wait to be directed by authorities and immediately shut down and started cleaning the shop, which is located at Eaton Mall, the Greek precinct of Oakleigh.

It should be noted that the City of Monash noted 40 new cases in the last 24 hours with 339 active cases at the moment.
