Following the renewal of the Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) between Greece and the US, the latter is set on allocating a total of US$33.5 million on the construction of two hangars and support buildings at Larissa Air Base, a fixed port of call for a number of US Air Force units in Europe (USAFE).

The Hellenic Armed Forces have already received Mark V vessels and Kiowa helicopters while the process is beginning for the delivery of M1117 armored security vehicles, Kathimerini reports, while a further collaboration pertaining to surplus military equipment is also planned, as well as new proposals for armament programs.

Meanwhile, 17 Assault Amphibious Vehicles will be acquired in an effort to stir away from old Soviet-type equipment while four MEKO frigates of the Hellenic Navy are set to be upgraded.

Finally, Greece would be able to acquire F-35s five years from the beginning of the program as Greece’s Air Force secures the necessary infrastructure, the appropriate support and the pilots for the aircraft.
