Australian Greek Orthodox group Paradise 4 Kids is running a fundraiser to support the Greek Orthodox Orphanage in Fiji. Through the initiative, over $20,000 has been raised in the space of two weeks for the orphaned children in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis in Fiji.

Imagine the school run. With public transport options here in Australia, most families don’t have to worry about accessibility with their children getting to and from school. However, this is not the situation for all children in other parts of the world.

The situation at the Orphanage.

In Australia, transportation is a privilege we often take for granted. One that the children at St Tabitha’s Greek Orthodox Orphanage in Fiji, no longer have.

Before the COVID outbreak, the children were transported to their respective primary and high schools in an old van from the Orphanage. This was a run that Sister Anysia used to do every morning and afternoon. She would take one group of children, then come back to the orphanage for the next group of children – and then for the final group (as the van was not big enough for all of them).

The goal to raise $60,000 by the start of 2022 to be able to purchase a brand-new 12- seater van to transport the children to and from school.

Why the children need your help today?

During COVID -19 the old minivan broke down – unrepairable, it has been sitting in the garage graveyard for over a year. As lockdown restrictions continued, the children were home schooled, so there was no urgency to replace the van (or money). However, school resumes in 2022 and without this vital transportation, the children of St Tabitha’s will not be able to attend school again.
