Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United are preparing for the second Original Rivalry match this season, giving a bit of entertainment in a round which features four postponed fixtures due to COVID-19.

The premier fixture of the ninth A-League Men’s round will take place on Saturday night as the first place Victory seeks a win over Adelaide, having knocked them out of the FFA Cup on Wednesday night.

The Reds will be hopeful after they secured their first league win on New Year’s Day over Wellington in an emphatic 4-0 drubbing.

The second and last match of the round features Wellington and Arthur Papas’ Newcastle Jets with the New Zealanders’ home match being played in NSW due to issues surrounding COVID-19.

The Phoenix have found themselves in some horrible league form, losing their past four matches, including a 4-0 defeat to their opponents Newcastle.

Newcastle will be hoping Greek winger Savvas Siatravanis is fit enough to feature and help elevate his side’s hopes for another win over Wellington after he missed a few matches to injury.

“Yeah, obviously, happy to have Savvas back in the frame. He’s missed the last couple of games. He’s trained hard…it was good to see him back on the park,” Mr Papas answered to “Neos Kosmos’” question post-match after their last fixture against Macarthur on December 19th.

The remaining four fixtures scheduled for this matchday have all been postponed.

This includes Western Utd-Sydney FC, Western Sydney-Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar-Central Coast and Melbourne City-Macarthur.

Melbourne City and Western Sydney will however play against each another on Sunday night in what is an early round-26 fixture.
