Good Shepherd CEO Stella Avramopoulos has welcomed the release of the Federal Government’s Draft National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-2032.
Avramopoulos has been working tirelessly to push for this agenda, being the CEO in a 400-year-old women’s organisation that has been doing this in Australia since 1863.
“Good Shepherd sees today’s Draft Plan as significant progress on the last National Plan, and its focus on a ‘towards zero’ approach is what Australian families desperately need,” Ms. Avramopoulos said.
“The Draft Plan makes encouraging references to the establishment of a National Family, Domestic & Sexual Violence Commission and a focus on violence prevention.”
Avramoloulos went on to say that Good Sheperd is particularly pleased about the references to early intervention and recovery to complement strong crisis services.
“The effects of family violence can last a lifetime and ongoing support is crucial to progress,” she stressed.
“This is a pivotal moment in time for government and sector partners to come together to disrupt the cycle of violence. Good Shepherd has more than 130 years of experience providing family violence and economic security services to those in need, so we look forward to working with the Federal Government and the Minister to bring this plan to life.”
