In an unexpected turn of events mid-game one of Nick Kyrgios’ tennis balls was catapulted and striking a young fan enjoying the doubles game at Kia Arena.

Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis were half way through the first set against Tim Puetz of Germany and Michael Venus of New Zealand when Kokkinakis served a fault.

The ball bounced towards Kyrgios, who whacked it out of the court in frustration hitting an unsuspecting fan.

“I think that may have hit someone incredibly hard,” the commentator said.

“It was a young fan who’s just copped the full force of that and wasn’t expecting it.

“That’s unfortunate. What’s Kyrgios going to do?”

The young boy was a bit frazzled but things got even more unbelievable when Kyrgios paused the game to grab one of his brand new and very expensive racquets from his bag.

Walking up to the edge of the court he passed it up into the crowd, telling them to give it to the boy he hit accidentally as an apology.

Talk about a silver lining!
