In what promises to be a memorable afternoon of Greek choral music in Brisbane, the Ellinikes Fones Choir be unveiled for their first-ever performance on Sunday, 15 May.

The debut performance which is entitled The Essence of Greece (Άρωμα Ελλάδος) will be conducted by Chrstina Xydi-Lignou and the concert will include works by Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis and music that commemorates the century since the Asia Minor Catastrophe.

The new choir will be supported in the by the GOC Care Choir Fones, the Greek School of St George and the Antiphonia vocal ensemble. Soloitsts Katerini Manolatos and Mel Lathouras will also be performing on the afternoon with Geoge Lignos on keyboard, George Pippos on violin and Steve Koutsovasilis on bouzouki and guitar.

The event takes place at the Grand Ballroom of the Greek Club, South Brisbane. The event is organised by Brisbane’s Panayri Greek Festival 2022 and the Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane.

The Essence of Greece starts at 4.30pm on Sunday. Ticket are are $30 with children under 12 for free.
