The history of Fitzroy suburb is the topic of a talk that will delivered by Professor Joy Damousi on Saturday, 28 May.

Prof Damousi who is the head of the Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences will share her memories and photos of growing up Greek in 1960s Fitzroy as part of the ACU Game Day Lunch at the Community Room of Brunswick Street Oval.

In her talk, Prof Damousi will explore local history of the suburb where she grew up and continues to live in.

She will reflect on what it was like growing up an immigrant and look at the role football played in rebellion and “Australianness”.

The cost of the luncheon is $35, which will be provided by Asylum Seeker Resource Centre Catering, and drinks are available at bar prices.
