The author of Yiasou Yarraville from Heartache to Heroes which recounts stories from the Greek community of Yarraville from the 1950s to the present, will be talking about her work at the Williamstown Literary Festival (Willy Lit Festival) one the biggest winter arts festivals in Melbourne’s west.

Author Olympia Koziaris will be talking to Dorothy Poulopoulos on 18 June at the Meeting Room of the Williamstown Hall. Ms Poulopoulos, who is the president of Melbourne Poets Union, will ask Ms Koziaris about her book which features the histories of 20 Greek residents of Yarraville taking in their work, lives and pastimes.

Ms Koziaris, who grew up in the area and continues to live in Melbourne’s West, received a community grant to write the book from Maribyrnong Council and was also sponsored by Delphi Bank.

“I’ve been a Willy Lit Festival volunteer for the past few years and this year I’m really excited to have the opportunity to discuss my local history book, Yiasou Yarraville from Heartache to Heroes, with Dorothy Poulopoulos,” said Ms Koziaris. “The Willy Lit Fest is one of the most respected writer’s festivals, attracting some of Australia’s best loved authors. The 2022 Willy Lit Festival includes a few of my favourites including Jock Serong, Tony Birch, Paddy O’Reilly, Tony Jordan and Andy Griffiths.”
