On Sunday Neos Kosmos joined the committee of the Society of Kalamata ’23 March’, alongside over 240 members, friends and guests to attend the launch of the Greek Women of Influence book.

This bilingual book written by Peter Andrinopoulos highlights the influence and contributions of Greek women over the last 200 years.

The launch was a dual celebration in honour of the international bicentenary celebrations of the Greek War of Independence and a commemoration of the 100 years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe in 1922.

“We were thrilled with the outcome of the book launch,” said San Vlachos, president and Katy Karabatsos, secretary of the Society of Kalamata ’23 March’ s.

Mr Vlachos said that the success was due to quality events and members support.

The book was launched by the Lily D’Ambrosio, the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change at Alphington Grammar School. Guest speakers included the Jenny Mikakos, former Minister for Health; Martha Oplopiadis, who is a global senior manager in the rail infrastructure sector; Litsa Athanasiadis, former and first female president of Pontiaki Estia and president of the Merimna Pontion Kyrion of Oceani among others.

The speakers presented on themes like equality, respect, traditions, and care.

The book highlights the work of women born in all continents of the world including Australia, Europe, Asia, Latin America, North America, and Africa.

The women represent diverse fields, such as, academia, health, arts, science, sports, military, finance, design, education, engineering, and more.

The author Andrinopoulos traced back his inspiration for the book to his youth. It then that he started thinking of the inequities faced by women. He collated, researched and brought together as many Greek women’s accomplishments as he could from 1821 – 2021.

“I spent a lot of time over eighteen months to create the book and dedicate it to the important women in my life,” said Andrinopoulos .
