Meanwhile, Greek runner Antigoni Ntrismpioti also won the gold medal for Greece in the 35km women’s race at the European Athletics Championships 2022, held in Munich.

Ntrismpioti who crossed the finish line in 2 hours and 47 minutes wrapped in the Greek flag, received her medal with tears of joy as her country’s national anthem played.

The 38-year-old’s victory put Greece on the tallyboard, marking the nation’s first-ever gold medal in race walking. The female athlete who has been reaching for the podium since 2013 with many medals has been training herself whenever she finds time while working full-time at her family’s restaurant.

During the race, she was recorded speaking to her husband who was following the entire race on a scooter cheering her up.

“I told him I was confident. I said, ‘Don’t worry. I have it,’” she said.
