The Greek national basketball team defeated Estonia 90-69 on Friday morning in Milan, entering round 16 of EuroBasket 2022 undefeated.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is playing for the Greek national team, held the team together as both a facilitator and defensive disruptor while delivering blow after blow to Estonia.

With a 8-0 start to the game, The ‘Greek Freak’ accumulated a tally of 25 points before the interval.

Thanks to the Antetokounmpo brothers Greece’s national team raced to a 51-26 lead at half-time, even though the second part of the game was not without suspense and several close encounters, with Estonia heavily marking Giannis who was seen limping after the hoops-thriller.

Even though he was injured, he took part in the postgame on-court celebration and exchanged handshakes with Estonia’s players and coaches.

Greece’s coach, Dimitrios Itoudis, said Antetokounmpo got ice and received treatment but did not sound worried. “It’s all good,” Itoudis said.

Other notable mentions for Greece were Kostas Sloukas who scored 11 points alongside Giannis’ older brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, who said the win felt great.

“Estonia are young running guys, they were great,” the Greek forward said.

“We’re a super-young team and we need these games against the world’s top players and for us, it’s about gaining experience. And I think we gained a lot.”
