OAKLEIGH TRAILS – THE GREEK FOOD WALKING TOUR

The much anticipated Oakleigh Trail; a 40-minute walk along the restaurant and café-bar precinct of the most Greek suburb in Melbourne begins. Renowned for its strong European influence with the most prevalent vibe in the area being that of Greek eateries and live music venues, Eaton Mall continues to gain momentum as a major Hellenic precinct. On the Greek food walking tour, taking place not once but three times this year attendees can share their stories of migration and what role food played in upholding culture and tradition. Interested parties can sample traditional baked goods made fresh daily on-site, taste deli produce and learn about the products that heavily feature in Mediterranean home kitchens, visit a cultural store to learn about religious customs and traditions and, lastly, enjoy a delicious progressive meal and a chat. NATASA THEODORIDOU IN CONCERT

Born and raised in Thessaloniki and gave her first performance in 1988 and moved to Athens to pursue her career in 1996. She has been signed by Sony EMI and most recently Heaven Music. With 10 platinum and seven gold albums Natassa Theodoridou is considered to be the number one female vocalist in The Greek World of the past 20 years. With concerts on every continent and a loyal following of faithful fans her sold out concerts are legendary for their artistic quality musicianship and energy. Natassa Theodoridou will perform in Melbourne’s iconic Palais Theatre with her tightknit band from Greece and will transport fans to Greece for a night.

The Greek Community of Melbourne’s Antipodes | Lonsdale St Greek Festival takes over the historic Lonsdale St Greek Precinct. Melbourne’s largest Greek cultural celebration with over 90 stalls, three free entertainment stages and roving performers, children’s rides and activities, as well as multiple bars and an array of mouthwatering Greek culinary delights, there will be something for the entire family to enjoy.

REBETIKO CARAVAN @ GREEK FRINGE

Straight from the source, Fotis Vergopoulos is coming to down under to perform three unique shows in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney! Leading this all-star line-up of local and inter-state musicians, Fotis represents the next generation of talent from Greece and his musicianship and feel for rebetika is inimitable. Fotis was initiated into the world of music at the age of six by his father, Nikos, an inaugural member of the Apodimi Kompania. He has toured Europe extensively as well as Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

He currently lives in Athens where he has performed with many notable artists including Agathonas Iakovidis, Martha Fritzila, Babis Gkoles and Manolis Pappos to name a few. Joining Fotis on stage are special guests and stalwarts of the Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne rebetika scene.

NATASA THEODORIDOU LIVE

Greek music lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy one of Greece’s most popular signers in Sydney on Friday, 7 October at the State Theatre, then in Adelaide (8 October at Thebarton Theatre), and Melbourne (16 October at Palais Theatre) for three unforgettable nights. Natasa Thodoridou made her music debut in 1997, with the album ‘Natasa Theodoridou’, which was a huge commercial success. Greek audiences will have the opportunity to dance and sing along to many favourite hits such as ‘Tis Dyskoles Stigmes’, ‘Ena Spiti Kaigetai’, ‘Mi Gyriseis Ksana’, ‘Mia Kokkini Grammi’, ‘Feggari’ and many more.

PANIYIRI GREEK FESTIVAL

The Paniyiri 2022 Greek Festival, Brisbane’s world renowned cultural festival where everyone is encouraged to dine, dance, and party like a Greek, will take over Musgrave Park in South Brisbane on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October. Paniyiri Greek Festival is a multi-sensory experience where all ages and abilities are encouraged to dance the Zorba, stomp some grapes, shop the market stalls and sample the huge variety of savoury or sweet delicacies from multiple food stalls representing the different Greek regions. Tickets include cultural presentations, cooking demonstrations, entertainment including live music, dancing and DJs; art exhibitions, fashion parades, even a pop-up Greek village to visit.
