Stefanos Tsitsipas and his father have made headlines again, not for winning points but because the world no. 5 has publicly called his father, Apostolos a “malaka” at the Vienna Open.

The Greek faced Dennis Novak in the opening round of the ATP 500 event in Austria on Wednesday, in what was a stressful match.

After losing the first set and a serve, Tsitsipas reportedly lost his temper at his coach and father who, according to media and umpires tends to talk too much, asking him to leave the players’ box in the arena.

Just before he ordered his coach to leave, he yelled at him: “You’re a malaka! You’re a malaka!”

Tsitsipas was able to break back and win the match 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in just under 90 minutes to face Borna Coric in the second round.

It is not the first time that Tsitsipas has attacked his father verbally, at the ATP Cup 2020 he nearly smashed a racket on him after losing a set, shattering it into pieces, with the debris hitting Apostolos, who was coaching Greece. His father had to leave the arena to get treatment for his bleeding arm while Stefanos’ mother had to intervene to calm her son’s nerves down.

After the incident, Tsitsipas took to Twitter again to share one of his inspirational quotes, writing: “Nobody stays with you forever. Learn to survive alone.”
