The Greek Australian Writers’ Festival presented by the Greek Festival of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) will be held on Sunday 2 April from 10 am to 6 pm at Beta Bar, 238 Castlereagh Street, Sydney.

Directed by Dr Helen Vastikopoulos, a professional fellow at UTS, the event will feature a keynote session towards the end of the evening from Australia’s Ambassador to Greece, Arthur Spyrou who’ll arrive from Athens to speak on the legacy of Charmian Clift.

Clift was an Australian journalist and writer who detailed her experiences living on the islands of Kalymnos and Hydra, whose accounts have only now been translated to Greek, nearly sixty years after they were published.

And in 45-minute sessions spread throughout the day, Greek Australian creatives will share experiences from their journeys in the art of writing while taking questions from the audience.

A discussion on the evolution of Greeks in Australia asking ‘Are we White yet?’ will also take place during the event, which will be recorded by ABC Radio National’s Big Ideas program.

Books from various Greek Australian authors will be on sale during the festival and authors will be available for signings.

While the event is free it should be noted that bookings are required, for more information click here.
