Effie Canellopoulos’ children, Nicolas and Kaiti, are fulfilling their mother’s dream of publishing a digital album depicting her work as an amateur photographer during the period from 1965-1995.

These photographs had a special meaning for Effie Canellopoulos, based on her memories, her experiences and the symbolism they contained for her. For the first time, 2000 of the 6000 slides of her personal collection are being made public.

In the photographer’s own words: “There, elsewhere, everywhere, I think I have experienced all of Greece and I hold her deeply within me. I never thought photography could capture so much beauty and such harmonious color combinations. ”

The project is an homage to their past and to the journey of their childhood, which left a deep impression of Greece on them. The photographer and her husband, Alexandros Canellopoulos, were close friends with the Nobel prize winner poet Odysseus Elytis, with whom they often went on trips where Effie Canellopoulos photographed her favorite subjects.

The aim of Nikolas and Kaiti Canellopoulos is to highlight the different aspects of Greece and the richness of the Greek cultural heritage through the collection.

“Photographs made with special artistry, sensitivity and rare photographic clarity and cultural quality, and in huge numbers. In these shots I saw our entire lives and experiences. Thanks to this comprehensive testimony, you give people the opportunity to actually experience our country,” art historian Denys Zacharopoulos said.
